PRESENTERS:
Following GAPABA's recent Statement in support of Black Lives, we present an important discussion on building Asian American allyship with Black communities. We provide a free screening of the historical documentary Alternative Facts: The Lies of Executive Order 9066 about the false information and political influences which led to the incarceration of Japanese Americans during WWII, the murder of Vincent Chin and its impact on APA political race consciousness, and the rise of Anti-Asian Violence in the time of COVID. With Georgia now at the epicenter of Black Lives Matters protests following the killings of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Rayshard Brooks and others, we want to discuss the intersectionality of violence against both the APA and Black/Brown communities, and how we can become better allies and accomplices.

This documentary tells the untold story of false information and political influences which led to the World War ll incarceration of Japanese Americans. The film also examines the parallels to the targeting of groups today and similar attempts to abuse the powers of the government. The film sheds light on the people and politics that influenced the signing of the infamous Executive Order 9066 which authorized the mass incarceration of nearly 120,000 Japanese Americans. ALTERNATIVE FACTS exposes the lies used to justify the decision and the cover-up that went all the way to the United States Supreme Court.
