For September's #GAPABAGivesBack, GAPABA Partners with Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation (AVLF) to assist with their Virtual Saturday Lawyer Program! Volunteers (both Attorneys & Law Students) have the option to pick from multiple time slots to meet with clients virtually through a Zoom meeting. VOLUNTEERS ARE ASKED TO PLEASE CHOOSE 2 TIME SLOTS EACH:

• 8:15 AM - 10:15 AM
• 9:45 AM - 11:45 AM
• 11:15 AM - 1:15 PM
• 12:45 PM - 2:45 PM

Each slot is 2 hours to account for technical difficulties, the client interview, and debriefing with an AVLF staff attorney

• CASE TYPES: 
• • Promoting safe and habitable housing and ensuring return of security deposits
  • Resolving other landlord-tenant disputes, such as illegal evictions or damage to tenants’ property caused by landlords
  • Securing unpaid wages
  • defending clients against wrongful debt lawsuits and garnishments and stopping harassment and unfair collection practices by debt collectors. 
• TRAINING: Volunteers who accept cases receive a high level of training and support on their specific case from AVLF staff, who will provide questionnaires, training docs, and a virtual orientation video prior to the Program. Orientation materials and Zoom link will be emailed to volunteers the week of the program.
• CLIENT MEETING: The Zoom meetings will be set up by an AVLF staff attorney, and AVLF staff attorneys will also be present for questions, debriefing, etc. throughout the program.
